BET president Kevin Hill has apologised for the awards mixup between Rihanna and Chris Brown during Sunday evening’s ceremony.
Rihanna was initially announced as the recipient of the ‘Viewers’ Choice’ award during the show, only to be told that there had been a miscommunication over the winner and that Brown had actually won the vote.
The Bajan star was unable to attend the ceremony as she is currently on the road with her ‘Loud’ tour across North America and so had the award accepted by Drake on the night.
It was then confirmed that Brown had won and the award was transferred to him.
Taking to Twitter to apologise for the confusion, Hill stated: “That BET Awards ‘Viewers’ Choice’ mixup was due to human error. And I was the human that made that error. I apologise to ALL affected.”
Tiffany Green, a fan who was invited to present the award, claimed that she was told Rihanna was the ‘Viewers’ Choice’ winner in her earpiece, while Brown’s name was written in the envelope.
